Despite heavy rain, thousands of Bicolano protesters led by KMU & Bayan Bicol held simultaneous march in six provinces to demand the end of contractualization in the country.
“Workers also here in Bicol face low wages, unemployment, rising prices and taxes, trade union repression, rights violations and attacks on Philippine sovereignty. We demand for regularization of all the workers in the country. DOLE Department Order (DO) 174 only gives the government the license to kill jobs and only allows many types of contracting and subcontracting that will cause intractable labor rights violations,” Dan Balucio of BAYAN-Bicol said.
Effigy in Albay highlights imperialism and the neoliberal polices of Duterte regime such as TRAIN Law and the proposed Charter Change. “The connivance of US imperialism in the face of Trump and Dictatorship in the hands of Duterte only lead to more human rights violations and suppression,” Balucio added.
Albay protesters burned Duterte-Trump octopus effigy with tentacles symbolically representing imperialism and neoliberal policies of Duterte regime such as Charter Change, TRAIN Law and DOLE Department Order 174.
Along with the protest actions in Camarines Sur, Pamplona police blocked six jeepneys of the delegates in Pamplona but eventually joined the march.

The protest carried out in the said province was to value the contribution of the workers in the country. “The government’s undervalued contribution to our workers is clearly a violation of human rights,” Venus de Mesa of Karapatan CamNorte said.
De Mesa added that it is a great challenge for workers to defend their rights. The key is the collective action to terminate contractualization and increase wages, increase the benefits and other labor rights. (with contributed photos)
