A vital to inclusive governance and fundamental reforms, that is how Anakpawis see the possible result for the confirmation of DAR Secretary Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano.
Today, August 30, is the deliberation of the Commission on Appointments (CA) on the confirmation or rejection of Ka Paeng Mariano as the Secreatary of Department of Agrarian Reform.
After Mariano’s one year term on the department, the group strongly believes that his leadership has led to positive and speedy response to farmers’ grievances on agrarian cases and instrumental to inclusion of genuine agrarian reform through distribution of land in the Philippine Development Plan and on Comprehensive Agreement on Socio-Economic Reforms of the GRP and NDFP.
“As Ka Paeng is the last beam of hope of poor sectors in the Duterte cabinet, we urge the president and members of the CA to uphold inclusive governance for the benefit of the people, otherwise, this administration would only reap the unrest, primarily from the peasant sector who are already at present occupying hacienda lands across the country,” said Anakpawis Partylist Representative Ariel Casilao.
Earlier, hundreds of farmers in Davao region rally in Davao City to support the appointment of Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano. Meanwhile, militant groups and progressive organizations of farmers especially the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas nationwide extend their full support for the secretary.
“If the CA rejects Ka Paeng, we could wave goodbye to the president’s pledge for an inclusive governance, and say hello again deplorably to a rule of big hacienderos, oligarchs and militarists,” Casilao said in a statement. (BaretangBikolnon.com)
