Broadcaster survives shooting in front of radio station in Legazpi

LEGAZPI CITY – A local broadcaster here survived a murder attempt after two unidentified gunmen wearing helmets shot him at the parking lot of his radio station.

With experience in broadcasting for almost 12 years, Carlos Sasis, 41, is a regular anchor of “Dos Manos” radio program aired Monday to Saturday, 9:00am-11:00am, at Zagitsit News FM located at Imelda C. Roces Avenue, Bgy Gogon, Legazpi City.

According to Broadcaster Sasis, he was about to park his car when he heard a flurry of gunshots, hitting the wheels of his car, and saw a bulky gunman trying to reload his gun.

“I dont know If I am really the target, because if they really wanted to kill me, they should have just shoot me straight, not in my car,” said Sasis believing that the intention was only to harass him.

A witness told Baretang Bikolnon that the 2 gunmen had a coffee break first on a carenderia in front of the radio station before the shooting happened. Unfortunately, they did not recognized them because of the helmets.

Asking for the possible motives of the suspects, Carlos Sasis was puzzled. “I cannot think of any reason for them to do this to me. Personally, I do not aggravate anyone, even at my service as a barangay official,” he stated.

Sasis is the incumbent barangay kagawad in Barangay Cabangan, Camalig, Albay.

He immediately get off his car and reported the incident to their station manager and at the police station.

Recovered from the crime scene were 3 cartridges and 1 dud bullet.

According to the initial report of the Police, suspects could be possibly traced because of the clear footage from the CCTV. They are now sketching the faces of the suspects and hoping for their arrest. (
