Ranking commander of NPA in Bicol killed in Sorsogon clash including 1 red fighter, 2 civilians

CASIGURAN, SORSOGON – Two New People’s Army (NPA) fighters, including a ranking commander of NPA in Bicol, were killed in an encounter with government troops here on Friday, which also resulted to the killing of 2 civilians in the community.

The slain NPA commander was Andres Hubilla alias Ka Magno and Bunso. The remaining red fighter was Miguel Himor, while the other 2 civilians were Dick Laura, fisherman and resident of Sitio Cabungahan, Barangay Boton and Arnel Borres, farmer in Barangay Santa Cruz.

Police Supt. Nonito Furio Marquez, chief of the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office (SPPO) Police Community Relation-Public Information Office reported that the encounter took place in the vicinity of Sitio Namoro, Brgy. Trece Martires, Casiguran, Sorsogon, at about 5:05 a.m. Friday.

According to police and civilian sources, AFP soldiers assaulted the house at Barangay Trece Martirez where Hubilla was staying and drinking coffee with the other victims. It was the time when the Provincial Police Office, Regional Intelligence Unit 5 and 96th Military Intelligence Company (MICO) Alpha Company of the 22nd Infantry Battalion and 31st Infantry Battalion were conducting strike operation.

There was no report if Hubilla fought back, or other NPA fighters in other houses. If there were, they managed to return fire.

According to a police statement Friday noon, Hubilla had been sighted with 30 fighters in the vicinity before the AFP operation and the gunfight lasted for 30 minutes.

Later, Hubilla’s body with gunshot wound on the head was recovered a few meters outside the house, while the other three were found dead inside the house, riddled with bullets.

As of press time, AFP soldiers were conducting clearing operations, and unconfirmed reports said clashes were heard by civilians in some areas near the site. (BaretangBikolnon.com/with report from Bicol Today)
