Naga City – Condor Piston Bicol protests against the plan to monopolize and corporatize transportation under the government’s modernization program.
“This was outlined in the neoliberal policies and approved by LTO-LTFRB-DOTr in favor of big foreign manufacturers of automobil. While leaders of Liberal Party will take advantage on bank loans,” said Condor Piston Bicol spokesperson Ramon Rescovilla during press briefing at Quiborac North Jeepney Terminal earlier.
Drivers and operators affiliated with Condor Piston Bicol also demand not to pursue jeepney phase out instead, government must support local operators.
According to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), modernization of public utility vehicles (PUV) plan is possible within three years, replacing jeepneys aged 15 years and older.
Under the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines, drivers and operators are required to use non-negotiable type of engine in all types of vehicles, the use of Euro-4 engine. LTFRB also encourages drivers and operators to use eJeep as the alternative.
According to Rescovilla, the scheme is an additional burden to small drivers and operators that will push them for bigger protests. “Condor Piston Bicol will continue to fight against anti-operators and anti-drivers policies,” he said. (BaretangBikolnon.com)
